We are kind.  We are mindful.  We are courageous.

Thank You For Your Interest In Golestan!

We have so much to share about our special school. Learn more about where you can find important information about our program before (or after) you come for your tour.

We take play and exposing our students to healthy risk very very seriously. We believe kids should be exposed to risk early on for the sake of developing healthy risk aversion, courage, gross motor skills, confidence, problem solving, creativity, collaboration, core strength, and so much more. That said, this school is not for everyone. Please read our approach and policies regarding children’s play in our Play Policy below. All parents who choose to enroll their children at Golestan must agree to this policy.

First and foremost, our teachers must be kind, compassionate, and nurturing. We work hard to develop a standard across grades at our school. To that end, we use Golestan’s Guide to Teaching as a starting point for training all teachers and volunteers. Many parents find this document to be very useful at home as well!

Transdisciplinary Learning through Themed Curriculum:

We teach by example. As such, it is our job to set a positive model for our kids so that they may be the ones to create a safe and healthy planet for generations to come. Learn about Golestan’s Environmental Stewardship.

Parent Testimonials

“The fresh food that is prepared for these children is fabulous!”

Fresh Food

“The language development has been mind blowing. Our kids have such an incredible vocabulary and are able to connect with Iranian relatives in ways I could never have imagined because they share the language and even know the same songs. It’s beautiful and powerful”

Language Development

“The teachers radiate kindness and affection towards the children and the children adopt these attitudes towards each other. They learn how to resolve their own conflicts. They are amazingly empathetic towards others (friends, strangers, animals, plants and insects!). The children are taught to be comfortable with the heritage without necessarily thinking of themselves a different or special. They are appreciated for their individual uniqueness but not over-valued in a way that encourages narcissism.”

The Teachers

“Golestan strikes a great balance between honoring heritage culture while embracing the modern sensibilities of Berkeley and Bay Area culture. You have also created a vibrant and supportive community that has become a key part of our family’s life. We treasure this and feel blessed to be a part of it.”

Balance

“Seeing how much my children love to go to Golestan and the incredible greeting they receive from the friends and teachers is truly special.”

Kids Love Golestan
